Business life has not become any less demanding since my last entry, however in some ways, it is becoming more interesting.
Barefoot Radio, as a company, is taking on what I would call a more solidified form. Meaning specifically that we’re doing more things that businesses do. My wife Adriana, Holly G and I are having weekly meetings. These meetings are helping us keep up with a myriad of growing responsibilities, including making money for the company, and setting many goals to move forward and grow.
In the future I see more individuals getting involved. There are many things that could be broken off into separate departments of responsibility. I need Web Developers on staff, graphic designers, graphic animators, audio engineers and especially video editors. All of these don’t even include other various talent that may become a part of our growing little company.
I see Barefoot Radio and Marijuana Radio evolving into what will be a larger growing family of content, eventually consisting of live video over the internet, with many programs ‘on demand’ as direct downloads. I think we may become something more akin to a new generation of ‘mtv’ content producers. Or maybe we could reach a point of popularity with our content and be bought out by someone. Depending on the circumstances, I could imagine my utopia retiring to my music studio with a wad of cash. However, don’t let my overactive imagination make you think that I take hard work for granted. I’m at odds every day with how hard it is to succeed, but I still continue to move on. And on a deeper note, success is more than the damn dollar.
I basically admitted that I’m a sellout. It’s true, or is it? I guess I’ll have to wait and see. Perhaps I could arrive at the glorious event of selling and bailing out on the company, but maybe when there’s that opportunity, I’ll still feel that my ultimate role with Barefoot Radio/Kuzz Media, LLC is yet unfulfilled.
On the production side, I’m always working to build a reliable crew for sound and video production. The goal is to get new video equipment, and a crew of regulars who are literally trained to get the right shots of the action in the studio. As well, I want individuals devoted to sound when recording band performances and guest interviews.
I’m feeling less alone right now as Adriana and Holly handle certain responsibilities with Marijuana Radio and the company, however, my workload is quite large. I look forward to a day when another sound engineer may be able to take over production of show audio. I want to focus more at that time with my talent, but that can only come after the crew is consistent and trained well. We don’t have an MTV budget, but we’re trying to work out how we can ‘look’ like we have it. As the producer of this stuff, I can’t ever expect to be doing first class media unless I find some talented people to work with us.
One of my top priorities is getting the TV shows produced better visually. I almost lose my temper when I feel the production doesn’t work right. I’m usually very pleased with the in studio audio, but the video will eventually look ‘higher’ budget. The lesser quality video drives me nuts on a daily basis. I need to shoot with consistent gear and crew. Still, with what I have, I’ve thus far really enjoyed the creative aspect of doing video. It’s not ‘big’ budget yet, but I love pushing the boundaries of the things I produce. I need to work harder at it.
I am really interested in a recent video that’s available from Itunes featuring Steve Jobs and Bill Gates on stage together discussing the history of their industry and their companies. Watching it, a few things stood out in my mind. First, they spoke about the economy as an ‘ecosystem,’ and how companies depend on one another for success. It echoed a sentiment put to me in the past year that successful businesses in many instances have the help of other businesses. I’m seeking others who see value in what we do.
The other thing Steve Jobs brought up was that ‘we take stability for granted.’ I believe he was referring to political, economic, and environmental stability. This statement stood out to me because I see the impending global warming process to be the greatest threat to every company, government, and person on the planet. It would devastate us to let war or the ecosystem overrun our way of life.
I’m trying to figure out what I can do as a business owner to minimize the negative impact that my activities have on the environment. I want to start this process soon while we’re young, and grow in the ‘greenest’ way possible.
I am working hard every day to blow the doors wide open with my company’s potential. I’m looking for ‘key’ others to be involved in this process.
